“Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel”- Shane & Shane
Well, it’s really warm out today. The kind of warm where the breeze blows and you think winter might almost be over. The bad news is, winter isn’t over. The good news is, Christmas is just beginning. But with it being so warm, it just doesn’t seem right to post anything about “Sleigh Riding” or “Let it Snow” or “Baby it’s Cold Outside”…because let’s face it, that would be lying. And as we learned from my posts last week, lying isn’t a good life choice. So we will stick with the truth.
Truth is…Jesus’ birth was prophesied hundreds of years before he was born. The children of Israel waited anxiously for the coming of their redeemer, their
king, their savior. Not many Christmas Carols are able to capture the emotion of that waiting like Oh Come Oh Come Emmanuel. The words echo the longing of the biblical prophecies, the melodies sound like a prayer, and even the weather today makes me imagine a warm breeze blowing over the fields as shepherds watched their flocks, searching the skies for a sign of something greater yet to come.
